ADVENSHATIME UMADE WORLD MAP

Ever since I saw photos of exotic safari and faraway landscapes when I was younger, I’d always wanted to travel. The dream was embedded within me from such an early point in life, and I worked really hard towards it. In July 2013 after I graduated I tasted my first experience of solo travelling. 6 years down the road I’ve collected so many incredible memories, met plenty of amazing people, and saw some of the most beautiful sights on earth. The best part is, now I get to memorialise that on my Umade world map.

I got this Umade world map tapestry recently as a gift and I spent a whole morning down memory lane marking the destinations I’ve been to, and ones I’m planning to go to! From these photos I know there were places I actually forgot to pin haha. It was so overwhelming to see all the places spread out across this huge fabric map, and honestly, I think anyone who’s an explorer at heart should have one.  

The best part is I got it customised to have Advenshatime (cos obviously, it’s the site name and this is about my adventure hahaha) printed on the top corner, which you can do for your name too. It can be personalised to your name, or even a short tagline so it’ll be a unique decoration for you. This map comes with 15 colourful location magnets – not pins! So it won’t leave pesky holes. The magnets are high quality too. I actually moved the map around a bit while setting it up an none of them came off. 

This tapestry came with a pair of 3M Command clear hooks so I didn’t need to use tools to nail it in, just taped up the hooks to the wall. Honestly, it took a little bit of setting up to but the material is so high quality, lightweight (and durable) that it’s possible to hang it up with tape as well. 

There are two types of magnets – normal circles and Fly Away Magnet Planes. I chose the planes to mark the locations I so badly want to go to – can you find them all? Hahaha. The circular ones I just marked as destinations I’ve been to, would love to go again in a heartbeat, and don’t mind going to again. 

4 years of my life mapped out including destinations that I really, really want to explore in the coming years. Even through this photo I can recall the delicious paella I had near La Rambla in Barcelona, or climbing up rocky hills near the Acropolis in Athens, and even drinking hot chocolate at a Christmas market in Munich. These are real experiences represented by this tiny dots and it’s all flooding back haha. 

My next step to decorate this is to add polaroids and photo prints, maybe even ticket stubs around the map, and really make it mine! I think it just takes the personalization step further too – you know no other map will ever be like yours. You can even probably add travel tips and notes on the magnets too. 

I feel like that’s one of the key reasons why you really have to go out there and see the world. It truly enriches the soul and you understand that your immediate surroundings isn’t the end all of your life. There’s so much more out there and with enough guts it’s really yours for the taking. Anyway, get the world map okay!
