From Bethlehem

The appreciation of culture, and the learning of another religion, does not in any way undermine my own faith. On the contrary, it increases my respect and admiration of the diversity of His creations. It opens up my heart and my mind to be more kind, more aware, and more alive of my existence in His universe :) With that, here's some photos from my trip to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, and the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem.

Frescoes on the ceiling of the Church of Holy Sepulcher, depicting scenes from various chapters of the Bible.

Portrait of Virgin Mary carrying Baby Jesus, one of the rare depictions of her smiling, outside the entrance to the grotto of his birth.

Crowds waiting to enter the grotto under the altar at the Church of Nativity.

Visitors touching and paying respect to the grotto where it is believed Jesus Christ was born.

The silver star marking the spot of his birth.

A fresco featuring the crucification and entombment of Jesus Christ.

Paintings from the age of the crusades, preserved in the Church of Nativity.

The elaborate altar at the Church of Nativity, featuring gothic style ornamentations.

A statue of crucified Jesus Christ hanging over Golgotha's Rock, where he was believed be entombed.
